Choosing the Right Broadhead

When choosing the right broadhead for this hunting season, keep in mind that today’s bows are constantly changing. Today’s bows are getting faster and with this change there must be changes in the broadheads we use. The faster an arrow flies, a broadheads aerodynamics become much more important. The latest broadhead designs use smaller ferrules to achieve less wind resistance, making the broadhead fly more like a field tip.

Expandable broadheads have been very popular for a number of years, however, many expandable’s were poorly designed and didn't perform consistently. Innovative technology has allowed some manufacturers to create expandable’s that perform very well because of a rear deploying blade system. Rage was the company that first introduced rear deploying expandable’s and they are very popular among today's bowhunters. Another broadhead with rear deploying technology is the Piston Point. We have had excellent success with both of these broadheads.

Expandable’s are slim and aerodynamic, and fly very accurately because of their sleek profile. They also have very large diameters when their blades are deployed resulting in excellent entry and exit holes which leads to better blood trails.

Once you have chosen a broadhead, make sure that your bow is tuned for that particular broadhead which will result in better accuracy. Archery Country offers services such as broadhead tuning, and we encourage you to take advantage of it.
